It's winter break at St Vladimir's, and a massive Strigoi vampire attack has put the school on high alert. This year's trip away from the academy to the wintery peaks of Idaho has suddenly become mandatory. But Rose's troubles seem to follow her wherever she goes - dealing with the pain of knowing that her relationship with her tutor Dimitri can never be, things get even more complicated when one her closest friends admits his feelings for her. The glittering winter landscape may create the illusion of safety but Rose - and her heart - are in more danger than she ever could have imagined...

Frostbite picks up where book one left off; it's Winter Break (aka the Christmas Holidays..I think) but Rose isn't feeling the love--a massive Strigoi attack has just taken place and the whole academy is on red alert and there are Guardian's around every corner, ready for anything. And to make matters worse, one of those guardian's happens to be Rose's mother, Janine Hathaway. And then on top of all of that, Rose has a dented face - her mother's doings - Dimitri seems to have his eye on Tasha - the beautiful royal aunt of Christian - , and one of her closest friends reveals he wants to be more than friends with her..and not forgetting the fact that Rose keeps getting pulled into Lissa's head when she's having moments Christian!

Mason is sure Rose is messing him about, and dangerously takes two others with him on a hunt to find the deadly's a dangerous move and Rose must team up with Christian to resuce them, and fast. But it's not all fun and games being the hero, especially when you find yourself in the grasp of 'the undead'.

In Frostbite we see the relationship between Christian and Lissa *really* bloom. I don't think I've talked about Christian yet..He's a Moroi, whose parents turned Strigoi (by choice) and then tried to turn him. Aw. At the Academy, nobody really talks or hangs out with him, he's seen as 'the boy whose parents turned Strigoi', the weirdo, the odd one out, the loner, whatever you want to call it! I think Christian is one of my favourite characters, his unfortunate family past makes him sound really evil or something and everyone assumes he's going to follow his parents footsteps, but he's different which is why I was so pleased when him and Lissa got together! They're a mismatched pair, but they really compliment each other and it's really sweet.

One minor flaw to their relationship though was Lissa's behavior towards Rose in Frostbite. I just felt like she wasn't there for her, and I know she is the princess and everything but seeing as they were so close and Lissa literally brouhgt her back from the dead that she'd pay a bit mroe attention and be there for Rose in that really hard time! Rant over.

Alas, Rose has realised that there can never be anything between her and Dimitri and tries to return the feelings Mason obviously has for her..but it just doesn't work. Mason is sweet and really cares about Rose, but she can't seem to like him that way back. And then he has to go and do something really REALLY stupid!!!

My first impression of Adrian Ivashkov, hmm..Adrian is yet another spoilt royal who is really quite full of himself, and Rose sees *right* through his charming wit that has all the others girls swooning. I originally thought he was the bad guy, out to get Rose or something, but really, who didn't?! He seems quite shady but
I'm looking forward to seeing more of him, and I have a feeling there will be a lot more of him, because he's actually quite an interesting character!

The end of the book = genius. A fantastic, complex writing style and I have to say actually nearly cried at Mead's beautiful, beautiful (and strangely compelling) words.
